TOP BOWLING EFFORT FROM DOUGLAS INSPIRES FOXTON

28 Aug 2010

ABINGTON 1ST XI 51 (25.2 OVERS) FOXTON 1ST XI 52-1 (6.2 OVERS)

Jeffery Douglas produced the top bowling performance in the Tucker Gardner Premier Division 1 League so far this season to inspire Foxton to their ninth win from their last eleven matches. Winning the toss for the third consecutive week skipper Sid Sabey invited Abington to bat on a very damp wicket. Opening bowler Douglas soon took advantage having home captain David Pimblett leg before in his second over. More success followed in his sixth and seventh overs with three more victims. Max Bowen from the other end although only making one strike was bowling very economically conceding just 27 runs from ten overs. Abington's main resistance came from Julian Small with 21. Douglas continued to wreak havoc with another four wickets and finished with the remarkable return of 13-8-19-8, this included five wicket maidens, an unusual feat, leaving the home side all out for a lowly 51 from 25.2 overs.

When Foxton's reply began opener Antonnel Atwell was in a class of his own with the bat and plundered the Abington bowlers for 50 of the 52 runs required for victory, his half century from just 26 balls included five fours and three sixes, an outstanding effort, and the whole innings was over in just 25 minutes from 6.2 overs, the game finishing by ten past three. Abington's only success being John Procajlo caught and bowled by David Hamper.

Next week Foxton are at home to second placed Wisbech in their penultimate match for this year and will need to be at their very best but confidence is high.
